Narek Gharibyan has an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from UC Berkeley followed by PhD in Radiochemistry from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Currently a research scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group after completing a postdoctoral appointment at LLNL from 2012 to 2014. Part of the research teams that confirmed the discovery of element 117 and achieved fusion at the National Ignition Facility. Other research interests in experimental nuclear and radiochemistry include isotope production, chemical separations, measurements relevant to nuclear reactions and decay properties, and application of nuclear science for national security.
